About 2 m
2 m is the most active VHF band. Day to day, tropo gives contacts of a few hundred kilometres, and during high pressure ducting can carry signals well over 1000 km. Meteor scatter (MSK144 near 144.360 MHz) works every day, best during the big meteor showers and in the early morning.
Sporadic-E on 2 m needs an Es MUF of about 144 MHz – a few times a year, mostly in June and July, for contacts of 1000–2300 km. Aurora and EME are other ways to work DX. SSB calling is 144.300 MHz and FT8 is around 144.174 MHz.
